Canadian Army Develops Plan for Hypothetical US Invasion

Khaberni - A Canadian newspaper reported on Tuesday that the Canadian military has developed a military model to simulate confronting a hypothetical U.S. invasion, coinciding with President Donald Trump's recurring hints at the possibility of annexing Canada.

The newspaper "The Globe and Mail" quoted unnamed high-ranking government officials, stating that the Canadian response scenario is based on tactics similar to those used in Afghanistan to confront Soviet and later American forces.

The newspaper added that the officials believe it is unlikely that Trump would order an invasion of Canada.

Following his re-election in 2024, Trump has repeatedly referred to Canada, the northern neighbor of the United States, as the 51st American state, asserting that the annexation would benefit Canadians.

Despite his recent silence on this topic, Trump posted a picture on social media last night showing a map of Canada covered with the American flag, alongside Venezuela, subtly indicating his desire for complete control over both countries.

The officials explained to "The Globe" that in the event of an invasion, the American forces would be able to control Canadian locations by land and sea within just two days.

Due to Canada's lack of military resources necessary to confront the United States, their response would likely resemble a guerilla campaign, involving ambushes and hit-and-run tactics, according to the report.

The newspaper mentioned that the model under development is "a conceptual and theoretical framework, not a military plan, but rather practical guidance and specific steps for executing operations."

The Canadian military has not immediately commented on "The Globe's" report.

The newspaper reported that the Canadian military expects clear indicators if the United States plans to invade Canada, including a decision to terminate bilateral cooperation in the North American Aerospace Defense Command "NORAD."

"The Globe" added that Canada would likely turn to Britain and France for assistance.

This week, both U.S. President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney are attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Trump's threats to take control of Greenland dominated the annual meeting of political and financial elites.

Trump's request for American control over this Danish region poses a test for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which includes Canada.

Reports indicate that Carney is considering sending a limited number of troops to Greenland, similar to other alliance members, as a gesture of support for the island.
