Khaberni - The Venezuelan government called on its citizens on Tuesday to share the official map of the country on social media as a "symbolic action" after US President Donald Trump shared an altered image showing US flags over Venezuela, Canada, and Greenland.
The image, which Trump posted on "Truth Social," shows a modified version of a photo taken in August 2025 with European leaders in the Oval Office with Trump, where the original map was replaced with one featuring US flags fluttering over Venezuela and most of North America.
The image includes the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, at a time when Trump himself and other leaders from around the world are heading to Davos to attend the World Economic Forum.
The Venezuelan government stated in a release: "In light of this situation, the Venezuelan state calls on all citizens to take a symbolic action as an expression of unity with the aim of defending the territorial integrity and countering misinformation." It invited the people to share Venezuela's official map on social media, which includes the Essequibo region that represents about two-thirds of the neighboring country of Guyana over which Venezuela claims sovereignty, despite no major country or the United Nations recognizing it.
Since the American attack on Caracas on January 3rd and the capture of President Nicolas Maduro, the Trump administration has indicated that it plans to "manage" Venezuela and that it has been cooperating with Delcy Rodriguez, Maduro's deputy and interim successor.
The Canadian Prime Minister's office did not respond to a request for comment. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated in Copenhagen on Tuesday that she would not give up on Greenland, although she did not rule out the possibility of Trump using military force to take control of the island as he said.
