Irbid Municipality launches the Central Market project as a strategic investment opportunity

Khaberni - The Irbid Greater Municipality announced the launch of the Irbid Central Market as a distinctive investment opportunity, aiming to enhance economic activity in the northern governorates and develop the agricultural marketing system in line with national food security policies.

This decision represents a pivotal step in stimulating sustainable development and creating new job opportunities for the residents of the area, reflecting Jordan's approach to enhancing public-private partnerships.

The Irbid Central Market project is among the top priority national projects, based on previous studies confirming the northern governorates' need for a comprehensive agricultural logistics center.

The project aims to address the historical challenges faced by the agricultural sector, such as low efficiency of handling and multiple marketing stages that increase post-harvest losses.

The project is located in the "Um Al-Abbar South" area, on a plot of land jointly owned by the Greater Irbid and Bani Obeid municipalities.

This location was carefully selected for its proximity to major national and regional roads and its adjacency to major agricultural production areas, making it a central geographical point efficiently connecting producers with consumers.

The Greater Irbid Municipality has invited local and international companies, whether operating independently or through consortia, to submit their technical and financial proposals for implementing the project.

Work will proceed according to the (DBFOMT) model, which involves design, build, finance, operate, maintain, and transfer ownership, under a concession contract lasting twenty years where Irbid Municipality and Bani Obeid Municipality represent themselves in this agreement.

These developments aim to create a modern infrastructure for wholesale markets, including enhancing cooling chains and improving the quality of agricultural products.

The municipality explained that this project would directly support farmers and merchants, and boost the competitiveness of the Jordanian agricultural sector.

The concerned authorities have indicated that all documents related to the tender requests are available through the official municipal website, with direct communication channels provided to respond to investors' inquiries via the designated email.

The launch of this project at this time indicates a tangible shift in the management of public facilities in Jordan, relying on investment based on partnership.

Regionally, the project reflects a strategic vision to make northern Jordan a center for exporting and distributing agricultural products, thus enhancing Jordan's position in the regional food security system.

The success of this project is likely to attract more foreign and local investments to the logistics services sector.

The upcoming path depends on the quality of the proposals presented and the consortia's ability to offer modern technological solutions in market management, promising to improve the livelihood of citizens in the northern governorates and reduce unemployment rates by providing hundreds of job opportunities linked to operation and maintenance processes.
