Khaberni - Many Iraqis have been preoccupied over the past hours with a photo published by the American President Donald Trump's envoy to Iraq, Mark Savaya, on his account on the X platform.
The photo shows Trump sitting across a table filled with several red hats bearing one of his favorite slogans "America is Back", and in front of him a cup of soda, in addition to an "old Iraqi" paper currency.
"It was a great day"
While it appeared Savaya was leaning towards the American President speaking to him, and he wrote commenting on the photo: "It was a great day.. A marvelous day with the greatest". He added "It was a pleasure seeing you, sir" referring to Trump.
While the actual details of the meeting, or the reason for placing this old Iraqi currency in front of Trump, were indeed unknown.
However, many Iraqis confirmed that the currency is old and had a printed image of the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
Many of them wondered about the reason, while others doubted the matter, and some hinted at the possibility of it being staged.
Trump had suddenly announced in a post on his Truth Social account in October last year (2025), that Savaya, who has Iraqi origins, would hold the position of special envoy to Iraq.
This appointment raised several questions at the time due to Savaya's unconventional background, as the man runs a marijuana store chain in Michigan.
Although he has no previous government or diplomatic experience. However, Trump praised him, considering he has a profound understanding of the US-Iraqi relations.
