Parliamentary Administrative Committee Discusses the File of Service Purchase Employees at Jordan Television

Khaberni - The Parliamentary Public Administration Committee, chaired by MP Khalifa Al-Diyat, discussed the file of employees working under the service purchase system at the Broadcasting and Television Corporation, during a meeting held today, Tuesday, attended by the Minister of Government Communication, the official spokesman of the government, Dr. Mohammed Al-Momani, the Chairman of Board of the Broadcasting and Television Corporation Gaith Al-Tarawneh, the Director General of the Corporation Ibrahim Al-Bawardi, and the head of the Journalists Syndicate Tariq Al-Momani.
Al-Diyat affirmed that the committee attaches great importance to the file of service purchase employees, as it is keen on ensuring transparency and equal opportunities in appointments, and addressing any imbalances within legal frameworks, in a way that serves the public interest and protects the rights of both employees and the institution alike.
For his part, the Minister of Government Communication emphasized the importance of handling the television employees’ file according to the legal and administrative principles that regulate and bind the institution, which contributes to enhancing the institutional performance efficiency at the Broadcasting and Television Corporation, confirming that the government amended the law to grant independence to the institution, enhancing the quality of performance and living up to the expected level of ambition from this prestigious institution.
Al-Tarawneh confirmed that early retirement is conducted according to clear and definite procedures, and there is no room for arbitrariness, given the legally and administratively approved procedural hierarchy in this regard, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the regulatory systems and instructions for work.
Meanwhile, Al-Bawardi clarified that employees under the service purchase system are not considered employees according to the legal definition, as an employee must have their name listed on the formation table, indicating that the institution allowed them the opportunity to apply for open announcement jobs, where 28 out of 60 applicants who took the exam were appointed, while the rest did not pass the exam.
Al-Bawardi also mentioned that the institution had not resorted to the option of early retirement, due to the nature of the media work based on experience and professional accumulation, except in some special cases, pointing out the presence of congestion in some job positions while there is a shortage in others.
For his part, the head of the Journalists Syndicate, during the meeting, affirmed the Syndicate's commitment to protecting the rights of fellow journalists, and stopping the referral to retirement altogether.
He explained that career development paths in media sectors are a professional necessity, and the Syndicate supports every reformative and modernizing effort that enhances the performance of media institutions, praising the professionalism of fellow journalists at the Broadcasting and Television Corporation.
