Jordan  The Parliamentary Energy Committee approves the Gas Law for the year 2025

Khaberni - The Parliamentary Energy and Mineral Resources Committee, chaired by Deputy Ayman Abu Henieh, approved during a meeting held on Tuesday, the Gas Law for the year 2025, in the presence of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, and a number of stakeholders.

Ayman Abu Henieh confirmed that the bill aims to regulate the natural gas sector and modernize the legislative framework governing it, in line with economic and technological changes, and contribute to enhancing energy supply security and achieving sustainability, in addition to attracting local and foreign investments to this vital sector.

In turn, committee members Deputies: Jamal Qamouh, Mai Al-Kharabsheh, Aref Al-Sayyedah, Khader Bani Khalid, Rakeen Abu Henieh, Islam Al-Azazmeh, Naseem Al-Abadi, Iman Al-Abbasi, Rania Khalifat, Nimr Al-Sulaihat, and Ahmad Shdeifat, explained that the committee discussed the articles of the draft law extensively, especially those related to licensing mechanisms, and the regulation of activities of transferring, storing, and distributing gas, ensuring fair competition, alongside defining the powers of the competent authorities in control and supervision, which enhances transparency and preserves the public interest.

They emphasized that the draft law considers consumer protection, preventing additional financial burdens on citizens, and stressed the importance of clear definitions and principles that govern pricing, linking it to real and fair costs.

For his part, Al-Kharabsheh explained that the draft law was a response to an urgent need to develop legislation governing the gas sector, affirming the government's commitment to taking into account the observations and proposals of the House of Representatives, achieving a balance between investment requirements and protecting the national economy.
