A Real Hero in a Virtual World Rockstar Fulfills Cancer Patients Wish to Experience GTA 6 Before Official Release

Khaberni - A human story has spread on social media platforms indicating that "Rockstar Games" gave one of the fans suffering from a terminal illness the opportunity to experience "Grand Theft Auto 6" before its official release, following a poignant request from a game developer working at "Ubisoft Toronto".

Anthony Armstrong, a developer at "Ubisoft Toronto", posted on "LinkedIn" in December 2025 asking for assistance from anyone working at Rockstar Games or Rockstar Toronto.

Armstrong explained that a family member has been battling cancer for years, and recently received the harsh news that the remaining time of their life is only between 6 and 12 months.

The developer mentioned that his relative is one of the devoted fans of the "GTA" series, and the current timing means he may not live until the launch of "GTA 6" under normal circumstances, and Armstrong did not request a copy of the game or general access, but asked for a private gaming session or a test before the patient's death.

Armstrong mentioned a detail that caught the readers' attention, explaining that the patient lives near the Rockstar studio in Oakville, which made organizing a personal play session subject to more likely supervision than any broader distribution, according to "timesofindia".

The developer expressed his understanding of Rockstar's extreme caution with confidentiality, adding that signing a nondisclosure agreement would be fair if they agreed to help.

The original post gained widespread circulation, and Armstrong posted subsequent updates that made the matter seem realistic, writing in a later update that the CEO of Take-Two had contacted him, and they were waiting for a response from the Rockstar team about the next steps.

In the latest update, Armstrong wrote that they had spoken with the team involved and received "great news", but he added that he could not share more, and later deleted the post from "LinkedIn", which provoked mixed reactions, with some suggesting that the reason might be a confidentiality agreement or legal concerns, while others saw it as an additional reason to wait for Rockstar's confirmation of the story.

The narrative seemed more credible to some due to a precedent of granting Rockstar early access in similar situations; in 2018, the company allowed a dying fan to play Red Dead Redemption 2 weeks before its official release, showing a pattern of flexibility in the company's response to patients' wishes in their final days.
