Khaberni - The official authorities in Madaba evacuated three families as a precautionary measure following the discovery of a water-filled cave under the building they inhabited.
A decision was also made to evacuate a group of buildings located on the watercourses in the western neighborhood based on the health and public safety committee reports and the engineering survey, in coordination with the Madaba municipality and the concerned authorities.
The affected families were relocated to the shelter center in Prince Hashim city in Al-Mareijamet until necessary measures are taken to ensure their safety following the completion of the investigations and engineering studies.
A source in the Directorate of Engineering Affairs clarified that coordination continues with the Greater Madaba Municipality and all related parties to ensure the protection of citizens and keep them away from hazardous areas in the province.
It was pointed out that the presence of a water-filled cave with waste water beneath the houses that were evacuated poses a direct threat to the lives of the residents, necessitating immediate cooperation with the relevant authorities from the administrative governance and public health and safety committees to ensure everyone's safety.
Evacuating buildings constructed on watercourses
In related context, the relevant authorities began implementing measures to evacuate several buildings constructed on watercourses which have shown structural cracks and ground subsidence, in addition to warnings of natural hazards like ground gaps and waste water, which threaten the safety of residents, especially with the increasing probability of disasters during the winter season and the recent heavy rainfall.
With the safety of the local people in mind, the Greater Madaba Municipality took a proactive step by expropriating five homes located on watercourses within its borders, aiming to evacuate their residents and ensure their safety in light of the increasing risks of floods and landslides.
The head of the Greater Madaba Municipality committee, Engineer Haitham Juwinat, affirmed that these measures are part of a comprehensive plan to reduce the dangers of floods and climate changes, taking into account the humanitarian and social aspects of the affected families.
He noted that protecting the lives of citizens and preserving their properties is a national duty, confirming the municipality's commitment to serving the residents of Madaba governorate with seriousness during the challenging weather conditions of the current rainy season.
