Jordan Approval of counting military service hours for university students

Khaberni - The Cabinet approved in its session held yesterday, Monday, corresponding to 19-1-2026, chaired by His Excellency Dr. Jaafar Hassan, the Prime Minister, instructions for counting lectures and training programs for students of higher education institutions as part of military service and reserve service, based on Article 14 of the Military and Reserve Service Law No. 23 of the year 1986 and its amendments.
These instructions are within the framework of preserving the best interest of the tasked students who were summoned for military service, and who were called up through electronic lottery from male Jordanians born in 2007 who have reached the age of 18 and are currently enrolled in any university, institute, or college, whether public or private.
According to these instructions, higher education institutions are hereby required to count twelve (12) credited hours as part of the student's academic plan who has successfully completed military service. These hours include courses in military sciences and national education, and if a student has already passed one or both of these courses before joining the military service or within his academic plan at higher education institutions, two alternative courses will be accredited according to those plan requirements, ensuring the completion of 12 accredited hours for all students who passed the military service program, without imposing any financial burdens or additional fees.
In addition, higher education institutions must facilitate the deferment of students summoned to perform military service, considering them automatically deferred for the term they joined for service without charging them any university fees for this deferment, and if the student has paid any university fees, it shall be credited for the following term.
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research will coordinate with the General Command of the Armed Forces and higher education institutions to monitor the implementation of these instructions.
