Khaberni - The Cabinet approved the system of the Jordanian Olympic Committee for the year 2026, in a step aimed at enhancing governance in the sports sector and providing a safe and organized environment for practicing sports in the kingdom, in line with the standards and foundations of the international Olympic movement.
These amendments come in line with updates made to the Olympic Charter issued by the International Olympic Committee, and enhance the independence of Olympic activities and keep up with the best global practices in sports management.
The amendments also organize the provisions related to membership in the General Assembly of the Jordanian Olympic Committee, in terms of conditions for acquiring membership and its termination, and distinguish between active and non-active members, alongside updating the organizational structures of the committee.
The amendments address mechanisms for convening meetings of the General Assembly, procedures for making its decisions, and the formation of supporting committees and independent committees, ensuring transparency and clarity of roles and responsibilities.
The amendments tackle the election procedures of the board of directors of the Jordanian Olympic Committee, and define the categories eligible to run for the position of president, in addition to outlining the disciplinary sanctions that may be imposed on members of the board of directors or members of the General Assembly.
The amendments also grant the board of directors of the Jordanian Olympic Committee the authority to establish an independent sports arbitration body, which will be responsible for resolving sports disputes that arise between athletes or sports entities, contributing to the reinforcement of sports justice and enhancing confidence in the national sports system.
