Minister of Transport Discusses Development of a Multimodal Transport System in Petra District

Khaberni - Minister of Transport, Dr. Nidal Al-Qatamin, chaired a meeting to explore the development of a multimodal transport services system in the Petra district, attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport Fares Abu Dayyeh, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission Daifallah Al-Farajat, and Chairman of Petra Region Authority Fares Breizat, alongside related parties. This effort aims to improve the tourist transportation system in the area.
During the meeting, the minister emphasized the importance of studying multisectoral transport options as a supportive path for tourism, due to their potential to provide modern transport solutions that facilitate visitor access and enhance their experience, aligning with the unique considerations of the archaeological site and its preservation needs, in addition to their role in improving the logistics efficiency associated with visitor flow and supporting services.
The meeting discussed technical and regulatory aspects, safety requirements, proposed operational mechanisms, and methods of coordination between involved parties, ensuring the provision of specialized future transportation services that meet the highest accredited standards and support the logistics and services offered to visitors.
The meeting also explored the prospects for integration between multimodal transport services and tourism, logistical and service-related aspects of the system, and reviewed the next steps and the expected timeline for relevant studies and actions, contributing to enhancing the efficiency of tourist transportation services in Petra.
This approach is part of efforts aimed at enhancing Petra's status as a global landmark, through the development of an integrated system for multimodal transport and logistics, which contributes to improving visitor experience and adding value to the national economy.
