In recent hours, the Iraqi artistic scene and social media sites have seen a large wave of sympathy for the Iraqi artist Jasim Sharaf, nicknamed “the smile maker,” after he suffered a severe health crisis that required his hospitalization, prompting his colleagues and fans to closely monitor his health condition.
The comedian artist entered one of the hospitals in the capital Baghdad after his health deteriorated, following a cardiac catheterization procedure, with intensive medical monitoring during his stay in the hospital.
The admission of the Iraqi artist, whose artistic career spans long decades during which he presented many artistic works, coincided with the spread of rumors about his death, which the Iraqi Artist Syndicate and those close to him quickly denied through social media.
Photos of Jasim Sharaf and news of his hospitalization and the deterioration of his health condition dominated artistic pages and social media platforms, where many expressed their concern for him, recalling his artistic career and the roles that remain in the memory of the audience.
The Artist Syndicate denied the death rumors through a formal delegation visiting the artist to check on his health, after his condition stabilized and he left the hospital, confirming that the circulating news was baseless.
The artist appeared bedridden, surrounded by a group of his fellow artists in photos published by the syndicate, accompanied by widespread wishes for a quick recovery from his audience, who were accustomed to his prominent presence in TV and theater works.
Two years ago, the septuagenarian artist suffered cerebral and cardiac strokes, which resulted in the loss of his ability to move the right side of his body, further increasing concerns about his current health condition.

His acting career took off from the stage, through his participation in the play “A House with Five Doors,” followed by other theatrical works, including the play “Our Neighborhood Went Gold,” which contributed to solidifying his name artistically.
In television drama, the artist participated in many works and was known for his comedic and humorous roles that left a distinctive presence among the audience, including “The Gangsters,” “Jai and Attraction,” and “Jassom Father of Poisons.”
