Khaberni - The General Manager of the Jordanian Electricity Company, Hassan Abdullah, confirmed on Monday that distributing electrical losses onto citizens' bills is "impossible and completely unacceptable".
Abdullah said that increases in bills during the summer and winter seasons are normal, and are not limited to electricity distribution companies in Jordan but are a global phenomenon occurring due to increased demand for electricity for heating.
He added that the number of complaints received by the company about bills falls within the normal range.
The three electricity distribution companies (Jordanian Electricity Company, Irbid Electricity Company, and Electricity Distribution Company) "categorically denied" the statements made by Deputy Qasim Al-Qabai regarding the distribution companies' endorsement of assigning "electrical losses" to subscribers' bills during December and January.
The companies emphasized in a statement on Monday that they did not participate in the referred meeting with the Parliamentary Energy Committee and that no statement or official stance was issued by them approving such a measure, stressing that the official session records prove that no representative from the three companies attended that meeting, and that the circulated statements are inaccurate and do not reflect what actually occurred.
The companies clarified that electricity billing is strictly based on the officially approved electrical tariff by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, and based solely on the actual consumption recorded on the meter, without adding any burdens, percentages, or terms related to electrical loss, confirming that there is no mechanism or decision that allows the subscribers to be charged directly or indirectly for the cost of the loss.
A member of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, Deputy Qasim Al-Qabai, had confirmed that the electricity companies agreed to allocate the electrical energy loss on citizens' bills during December and January of each year, during a meeting of the Energy Committee which discussed a number of issues related to the energy sector and the rise in electricity prices in Jordan.
