Khaberni - The Israeli police announced the detention of two individuals on Sunday while they were trying to cross through the Karama border crossing from the Palestinian side towards Jordan, with large sums of money amounting to 12 million shekels, in addition to foreign currencies.
The police, according to Channel 12 Hebrew, mentioned that the seized amounts were inside bags, and it is suspected that they were intended to support entities which Israel considers as terrorist organizations.
In turn, the Times of Israel suggested that the money is likely linked to funding Palestinian activities in the West Bank.
A joint statement by the Border Guard and the Israeli police stated that the operation came after about a month of intelligence monitoring, following information from the Central Command and the Intelligence division of the Israeli army about the suspects' intentions to transfer unusual sums of money through the crossing.
The statement added that the detention operation was carried out with prior coordination between the Border Guards, inspectors of the Allenby Bridge (King Hussein Bridge), a military force from the Valley Brigade, along with customs officials, where the suspects were arrested and transferred for interrogation, before being officially detained.
During the inspection of the bags, the money was found and confiscated to complete the necessary procedures and investigations.
