Report Internet Penetration in Jordan Higher than the Global Average by 28

A local official survey has revealed an increased integration of Jordanians into the digital world, with the percentage of Jordanian individuals (over five years old) who use the internet reaching 95.6% in the year before last, as reported by Al-Ghad newspaper.

The survey, conducted by the Department of Statistics in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, showed that this percentage is very high and indicates the extent of Jordanians' engagement with the service, surpassing the Arab average of 69.6% and the global average of 67.6%. 
The survey, whose results were announced by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship a few days ago, confirmed that the rate of internet use in Jordan in 2024 had increased from its recorded rate in the previous year 2023, which was then 92.5%. 
The survey on the use and spread of communication technologies and information technology for the year 2024 aims to provide a comprehensive database on the use of information and communication technologies among households and individuals in Jordan. 
Furthermore, the survey results clarified that the percentage of Jordanian individuals aged five years or older who use the internet daily stood at approximately 94.8% in 2024, and that the highest usage rate was from home, at approximately 98%, while mobile usage was 65.1%, and public place usage was 47.7%. 
The figures and estimates show that the number of internet users in the kingdom today is nearly 11 million, with 8 million using the internet via smartphones, spread across various wired internet services like fiber, and wireless internet such as fourth and fifth generations of mobile telephones. 
In related context, a survey on the use of communications in Jordanian homes showed that Jordanians use mobile phones intensely, with the percentage of individuals aged five years or older owning cell phones reaching approximately 88.4%, which is higher than the Arab average of about 83.1% and the global average of 79.7%.
The survey results noted that the percentage of households with at least one mobile phone reached about 99.6% in 2024, while the percentage of households with at least one smartphone was 97.5%, and the percentage of households with a fixed-line phone was only 3.7%, as landline phones have seen a decline due to the widespread use of mobile phones.
Regarding the prevalence of computer use in the kingdom, the survey results showed that the prevalence rate of computers of various types in Jordanian homes was about
42.4% in 2024, compared to 36.4% in the previous year 2023.
The survey results indicated the spread of devices by type, where the prevalence rate for desktop computers stood at about 15.2%, laptops at 34.3%, and tablet computers at about 21.6%.
The results also mentioned that the rate of computer use among Jordanian individuals aged five years or older was approximately 34.7% in 2024, an increase from its recorded rate in 2023 when it was 30.7%.
