Has Divorce Become a Phenomenon
الكاتب: الصحفي مجدي محمد محيلان

The Noble Qur'an says: "And do not forget about the grace among you" Al-Baqarah - Verse 237
And the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad, peace be upon him, said: "The most detestable of lawful things to Allah is divorce."
Regrettably, in recent times, the registered cases of divorce in Sharia courts have increased, according to what we read. Yes, divorce was legislated in Islam to be a solution for problems that might be the best of them. Although it is allowable in origin, it is unacceptable for its rate to have increased in the last two decades to the point of being describable as a (phenomenon).
I am not pessimistic, but the numbers are troubling, and the results are worrying. What are the compelling reasons in our era, making divorce a solution for many marital issues?!

In my personal opinion, the main reason is: the distance from (religion).

If marriage is for satisfying an instinct, what about the financial burdens? If it is for procreation, what about upbringing? If it is for companionship, what about mentality? If it is for customs and traditions, what about the religion?!

I also believe that the most important reasons for the rise in divorce cases can be summarized as follows:-
There are economic circumstances such as debts that follow marriage, and original poverty,  cost of living and price hikes, not to mention social and personal factors like parental interference, differing principles, values, and ideas, lack of communication, moreover, marrying at a young age sometimes serves as a negative factor due to poor decision-making or lack of wisdom, and there are other causes, thankfully infrequent, but sometimes they lead to separation such as: violence, mistreatment, and infidelity.

Finally, I quote the saying of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him: "Actions are judged by intentions, and everyone shall have what they intended." Therefore, if the intention of marriage for both parties is based on the divine law of what we are created upon from instinct, followed by bearing children accompanied by financial and physical capability, then the prospects are promising. However, if the intentions are otherwise, there is no power and no strength except with Allah.
