Nobel Committee Emphasizes that Possession of the Medal Does Not Equate to Winning the Award

Khaberni - The «Nobel» Committee said on Friday that the Nobel Peace Prize cannot be separated from its recipient, the day after this year's winner gave her medal to American President Donald Trump, noting that the award is not transferable, retractable or shareable

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said she «presented» her Nobel Peace Prize medal to Trump, in an attempt to curry favor with the American president who had sidelined her since Washington's overthrow of President Nicolas Maduro.

The committee stated it would not comment «on the relationship of the peace prize winners or the political paths they engage in».

It highlighted that there are no restrictions governing the winners' disposal of the medal, certificates, and the monetary amounts they receive as part of the award. It pointed out that some previous winners have sold their medals or donated them.

Machado was granted her award in recognition of her «tireless work in promoting the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and her struggle for a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy».

Trump had eagerly sought to win the award last year for efforts he claims ended eight wars.
