Pakistan Joins the American Peace Council for Gaza

Khaberni - The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Islamabad received an invitation from US President Donald Trump to join the "Gaza Peace Council" to work on resolving the crisis in the Gaza Strip and reconstruction.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Taher Andrabie confirmed in a press briefing that the invitation was directly addressed to Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, emphasizing that Islamabad "will remain engaged in international efforts for peace and security in Gaza, aiming for a permanent solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with United Nations resolutions."

The Pakistani invitation is part of a broad American initiative that included more than 60 countries, including Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Canada, and Argentina, as part of what Western diplomats described as a "mini United Nations" focusing on managing the transitional phase in Gaza after the war.

Although accepting to engage in the council, Pakistani officials emphasized that Islamabad would carefully assess its role in this mechanism, while continuing to support diplomatic initiatives that address "the humanitarian disaster in Gaza and the broader Palestinian issue."

Pakistan has repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire, the opening of unhindered humanitarian corridors, and accountability for violations of international humanitarian law in the sector, affirming that any settlement should ultimately lead to the establishment of a fully sovereign independent Palestinian state.

It should be noted that the Peace Council includes prominent American and international figures, among them US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, as well as World Bank President Ajay Banga, amidst international doubts about the mechanism's ability to achieve just and sustainable peace given the ongoing fundamental disagreements among the concerned parties.
