Khaberni - Dr. Khamis Hussein Attiyeh, the first deputy to the speaker of the House of Representatives, has submitted a proposal to the presidency of the council, calling for reversing the government's decision made in 2005, which stipulated the cancellation of the holiday for ministries, institutions, and government departments in the kingdom on the anniversary of Isra and Mi'raj.
Attiyeh confirmed in his proposal, based on articles (140, 141, 142, 143) of the internal system of the House of Representatives, that this occasion represents a central stage in the prophetic biography and holds a special religious significance in Islamic faith, in addition to its direct connection to the city of Jerusalem and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
He pointed out that the justifications for the cancellation decision cannot be stronger than the reasons to restore the official suspension of these departments during this great occasion, due to its religious and national symbolism for Jordan, particularly under the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Attiyeh explained that commemorating this anniversary on a national official scale is a political and religious statement against the Israeli plans aimed at Judaizing Jerusalem, and the daily systematic assaults and violations faced by the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
He added that reinstating the holiday also responds to public opinion, amid the displeasure and union discontent seen on the Jordanian streets following the cancellation of the holiday, considering it a diminishment of a religious occasion with a firm place in the conscience of Jordanians.
Attiyeh emphasized that preserving essential religious events contributes to enhancing social stability, and highlighting the religious and historical role of Jordan in Jerusalem, especially in light of the rapidly evolving regional developments.
