Khaberni - President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi directed the continuation of the strategy to develop the Suez Canal, its navigational course, and all its facilities and infrastructure.
The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, stated that El-Sisi reviewed a report on the navigation movements in the Suez Canal, where Lieutenant General Osama Rabie indicated that the Suez Canal experienced a relative improvement and partial recovery of the navigation movement during the second half of the year 2025, amidst efforts to contain the negative repercussions and enhance the competitive stance of the waterway with the completion of the development in the southern sector. Lieutenant General, the Head of the Suez Canal Authority, also clarified that the second half of the year also witnessed the gradual return of the mega container ships to transit through the Suez Canal, marking a positive indicator towards the resumption of mega container ships transiting the canal again as stability returns to the Red Sea region, simultaneously confirming expectations of increased revenues from the Suez Canal significantly during the second half of 2026 as the movement of some shipping lines return to normal levels by the year's end.
The official spokesperson stated that during the meeting, the Egyptian president also followed up on the executive situation for the development of the South Red Sea shipyard, to oversee the progress rates and the implementation schedules, within the efforts to localize the maritime industry, and enhance partnership with the private sector. In this regard, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie mentioned the updates on the construction of 12 deep-sea fishing vessels, as well as the completion of 6 marine tugboats in a series that includes 10 tugboats of the "Azam" model with a towing power of 90 tons, in addition to completing the construction of (10) other marine tugboats with a towing power of 80 tons at the Suez Canal Authority shipyards. Mr. Lieutenant General, the Head of the Suez Canal Authority also reviewed the executive situation regarding the Suez Canal Authority’s completion of building (10) river buses, in addition to plans for purchasing and upgrading the dredging fleet to enhance the capabilities of the Suez Canal Authority.
