Khaberni - Sheikh Tarad Al-Fayez said that the tragedy that took the lives of two children occurred in a water pond that lacks the minimum public safety standards, indicating that the pond is not surrounded by a fence and there are no signs or barriers around it, while its depth reaches about 30 meters and contains approximately 750,000 cubic meters of water.
Al-Fayez explained in statements to Hayat radio that the younger child slipped into the pond, and his brother tried to grab his hand to save him, but he fell behind him, while their father tried to save the children to no avail. He added that the ages of the children are 7 and 14 years, describing the incident as a tragedy that struck the entire Jordanian people.
Al-Fayez demanded not to allow the creation of any water pond unless the necessary permits are obtained, holding the pond owner full responsibility for what happened, and affirming the necessity of ensuring public safety before licensing any farm or similar facility.
He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Civil Defense personnel and diving teams, who continued searching under difficult conditions and intense cold, and managed to recover the children after about six hours, as the rescue operations continued from one o'clock in the afternoon until six in the evening.
He also valued the efforts of the director of Civil Defense in the Giza area, while noting that the region lacks the appropriate mechanisms and equipment, calling for the support of Civil Defense with the necessary capabilities.
Al-Fayez pointed out that there is a weakness in supervision outside the capital, asserting that villages and rural areas suffer from a lack of continuous oversight, emphasizing the necessity for the state to impose its control over these facilities, urging officials to take responsibility and fulfill their duty to protect citizens' lives.
