Khaberni - The High Criminal Court sentenced a Bahraini young man to 3 years of imprisonment after he disfigured his colleague's face with hot water, causing her a permanent disability assessed medically at 5%.
The details of the incident date back to when the defendant, a man in his twenties working in a cafe, had a minor dispute with his Asian colleague over serving an order. The dispute escalated, and he attacked her, knocking her down, which required intervention from the delivery staff to rescue her. After they were separated, while the victim was turning her back to him, he called her by name, and as soon as she turned around, he poured the hot water he had prepared in a vessel used for preparing orders on her face.
The victim stated in her report that she had asked the defendant for help on the morning of the incident, but he did not respond. She then logged into her cashier device and closed his account, before he unexpectedly attacked her, knocked her to the ground. After the workers intervened and she thought the problem was resolved, she was on her way to contact the management while the defendant was behind her. He called her again, and when she turned around, he surprised her by pouring hot water on her face, and she added that the workers took her out of the shop to the street, but the defendant followed her and struck her on the head with a water heater.
For his part, the defendant confessed in the Public Prosecution investigations to what he had committed. He was charged with intentionally causing a permanent disability by assaulting the physical integrity of her body by hitting and strangling her with his hand, and after the intervention from those present, he insisted on continuing the assault by lying in wait for her return to the coffee preparation area. There, he had prepared the hot water for her, called her to turn towards him, and poured the water on her face, resulting in burns and injuries described in the attached forensic medical report, and then went on to attack her outside the workplace with a metal water heater, causing her a permanent disability assessed at 5% as outlined in the investigations.
