Yemeni Attorney General Investigates Corruption and Crimes Attributed to AlZubaidi

Khaberni  - "Saba", the official Yemeni news agency, reported that the public prosecutor Judge Qahir Mustafa has issued a decision to entrust a judicial committee to investigate incidents of corruption, illicit enrichment, and all crimes attributed to the head of the Southern Transitional Council, Aidarus al-Zubaidi, and to proceed according to law.

The agency clarified that Article 2 of the decision stipulates that it shall be effective from the date of issuance and executed by the relevant authorities.

Two days earlier, Mustafa issued a decision ordering the formation of a committee to investigate the incidents attributed to Al-Zubaidi, and the agency explained that the committee would investigate the incidents attributed to Al-Zubaidi, including high treason intended to undermine the independence of the republic, forming an armed gang, committing murders against officers and soldiers of the armed forces, exploiting the just southern cause, and damaging it through severe violations against civilians, according to the source.

Saba added that the investigation includes incidents attributed to Al-Zubaidi such as "sabotaging military facilities and sites, assaulting the constitution and constitutional authorities, breaching the constitution and violating laws, and undermining the sovereignty and independence of the country".

Earlier, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, issued a decision to terminate his membership, accusing him of "high treason, distributing weapons and ammunition, forming armed groups, committing violations against civilians, and referring him to the Attorney General".

Speaker for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, Brig. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki announced that Al-Zubaidi, along with others, fled on the night of January 7 from Aden, following days after the government forces had regained locations, earlier in the month, controlled by the transitional forces in eastern Yemen.

The coalition's statement, led by Saudi Arabia, mentioned that Al-Zubaidi and his companions fled by sea from the port of Aden towards the separatist region of Somaliland in the Federal Republic of Somalia, noting that they had turned off the identification system and reached the port of Berbera before moving to the Emirates.
