French activist faces jail for rejecting the assault on Gaza

Khaberni  - In a Paris courtroom, Alex is not an ordinary defendant, but a young man in his twenties who finds himself facing terrorism charges due to his support for the Palestinian cause, as the public prosecutor in France demands his imprisonment for one year, with two years of judicial monitoring, recording his name on the list of suspected terrorists, and a fine of one thousand euros.

Alex, who preferred to mention only his first name, talks about a course of restriction that began with his arrest for 48 hours in March for promoting terrorism, before he was dismissed from his job and his bank accounts were frozen.

Despite that, he says that what he has experienced "is nothing compared to the repression that the Palestinian people are subjected to," a comparison that succinctly captures his stance and reveals his motivations, according to Al Jazeera.

The young man belongs to the "French Revolutionary Youth League," and faces legal proceedings after giving a speech at one of the pro-Palestine demonstrations, calling for the release of Lebanese activist George Abdallah, who was then imprisoned in France. Since then, his name has been present in judicial files, but he insists that this has not deterred him from continuing to take to the streets.

France's Role

To this day, Alex participates in demonstrations condemning what he describes as the French role in the war on Gaza. He says emphatically, "France is not just a supporter of the Zionist regime, but a direct partner in the genocide in Gaza, by sending weapons to Israel." Words he repeats, aware of their legal consequences, but he insists on not retracting them.

Alex is expecting a new court session scheduled for the tenth of February, but he affirms that his compass is still directed towards the Palestinian prisoners, saying "we should think about the thousands of Palestinian prisoners, more than 12 thousand prisoners detained in Israel." He sees his personal battle as part of a broader cause that transcends the borders of his country.

The young man says, "We can tell them that we will be with them until the end, and that they can rely on the French people and we will not fail them." For him, Gaza today represents "a model of pride and honor for all free peoples and revolutionaries around the world."

Despite the persecution and pressure he faces, Alex concludes his talk with a tone full of determination, "The people of Gaza are entering history. They have written its pages with ink made of blood. They are leading a battle for the freedom of the entire world, not just for Gaza."

Between the walls of the courtroom and the noise of the street, the young man continues his fight, believing that the personal cost is less burdensome than silence.
