Khaberni - The US special envoy to Syria, Tom Brak, met with the general commander of the SDF forces, Mazloum Abdi, and the president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani.
Al Jazeera's correspondent in Erbil, Stir Hakim, reported that the meeting discussed the March 10 agreement between the SDF and the Syrian government, adding that the most prominent issues addressed during the meeting were the overall situation in Syria and the military status in the Syrian scene.
The correspondent reported that after the meeting, a statement by the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, welcomed the legislative decree announced by the Syrian president, considering it an important legal and political step toward building the future Syria.
The meeting was a continuation of previous phone discussions between Barzani and the US envoy to Syria, which emphasized the importance of dialogue and coordination to reduce tension and maintain the course of political negotiation.
The correspondent confirmed that selecting Erbil to host these meetings reflects the pivotal diplomatic role played by the Kurdistan Region, whether through Masoud Barzani who led previous reconciliation efforts between Washington and the Kurdish parties and the Syrian government, or through the Prime Minister of the region, Nechirvan Barzani.
She considered that these movements are part of the region's efforts to enhance understandings and open wider prospects for concord between the Kurdish parties in Syria and the Syrian government, especially in light of Mazloum Abdi's announcement of withdrawal to the east of the Euphrates, and Damascus's announcement of laws related to Kurdish rights.
Before the meeting, Tom Brak tweeted on his "X" platform account that "the United States maintains close contacts with all parties in Syria and works around the clock to calm the situation, prevent escalation, and return to merger talks between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces."
This morning, Saturday, the Syrian Army entered the areas announced by the SDF last night to be withdrawn from in the Aleppo countryside, emphasizing that it will not target the organization during its withdrawal from west of the Euphrates.
