Dubai starts operating air taxis by the end of this year

Khaberni - Matar Al Tayer, the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, confirmed on Friday that it is scheduled to begin the commercial operations of the air taxis (air taxi) in Dubai by the end of the year.

Joby Aviation conducted the first test flight of the fully electric air taxis in Dubai in June 2025, marking a significant milestone for the emirate in its efforts to integrate these taxis into existing transport networks.

The (Joby Air Taxi), which takes off and lands vertically, can fly distances up to 100 miles at speeds reaching 200 miles per hour, and is developed by Joby Aviation, headquartered in California.

The company designed the "taxi" to be environmentally friendly, emitting no emissions during operation and quiet enough for commercial use in densely populated urban areas.

At the beginning of 2024, the company signed a contract with the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, granting it exclusive rights to operate air taxis in the city for a period of six years.
