Ter Stegen decides to officially leave Barcelona and the destination is surprising

Khaberni - Catalan newspaper "Sport" confirmed that the German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has made a final decision to leave the ranks of Barcelona F.C. during the current winter market.

This decision came after he sat on the bench in the King's Cup match against Racing Santander, which created a full conviction that his chances to participate are now non-existent in light of the "spectacular" performances of the young goalkeeper Juan Garcia.

Girona the closest destination

"Sport" revealed that the player's environment has already started to expedite the transfer procedures of Ter Stegen to Girona on a loan basis.
The Spanish league association has given the green light to complete the deal, where the departure of goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic will provide financial space for Girona to register the German goalkeeper, despite the financial fair play restrictions.
Financial sacrifices and a World Cup goal

According to the newspaper, Ter Stegen is willing to give up a part of his substantial salary to facilitate the agreement between the clubs, with Girona only paying about 20% of his wage.

The Barça captain is aiming through this move to ensure regular playing time, in order to secure his seat as a first-choice goalkeeper for the German national team in the 2026 World Cup, especially after implicitly acknowledging that Garcia's level (24 years old) has become "unattainable" at the moment.
