Khaberni - The Wall Street Journal, quoting unnamed American officials, reported that the United States is threatening Syria with the return of sanctions should it expand operations against the "SDF" formations.
The newspaper article stated: "American authorities threatened to resume working with sanctions under the 'Caesar Act' against the Syrian government if Damascus carried out a larger scale attack".
The report noted that the U.S. administration is concerned that the new Syrian army assault on Kurdish formations could escalate into a wider campaign "against the U.S.-backed militias, potentially leading to destabilization in Syria and increasing the divide between two of America’s key security allies who are fighting the Islamic State".
Earlier, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced the suspension of strikes on Kurdish formation locations in the Deir Hafar area following the decision of the Syrian Democratic Forces to withdraw their forces from the western bank of the Euphrates River in Aleppo province.
