Khaberni - Australian Communications Minister Annika Wells announced that 4.7 million social media accounts owned by children have been blocked since the country instituted a ban on minors using social platforms.
Wells told reporters on Friday: "We have faced down everyone who said it was impossible, including some of the strongest and richest companies in the world and their supporters. Now, Australian parents can rest assured that their children will get their childhoods back."
The numbers reported by 10 social media platforms to the Australian government are the first to show the extent of the historic ban since its enactment in December due to concerns about the harmful effects of online environments on the youth.
The law has sparked intense debates in Australia about technology use, privacy, child safety, mental health, and has prompted other countries to consider similar measures.
