Khaberni - The re-advertisement for the sale of Sheikh Muhammad Metwally Shaarawy's car in Monufia Governorate, north of Cairo, has refocused attention on the great love and esteem enjoyed by the late Imam.
One Egyptian car showroom proceeded to offer Shaarawy’s personal car for sale, resulting in thousands of phone calls from citizens eager to acquire the car, due to its significant symbolic and historical value.
Karim Subaiha, the owner of a car showroom, who advertised the sale of the car, said that he purchased the car from someone residing in the late Sheikh’s hometown in Dakahlia Governorate, noting that the car was in good condition with its old license that bore Shaarawy’s name, confirming its authenticity and historical value.
Subaiha added that the car remained with its previous owner for a long time as a personal collectible with a special character, before it was offered for sale, stressing that he decided to reintroduce it to the market not for the purpose of trading in the late Sheikh's name, but to give his followers a chance to own a symbolic piece of his history.
Model year 1989
He mentioned that since the announcement of the car's sale, he has received thousands of calls from inside and outside Egypt, from people expressing their desire to buy the car and keep it in museums or private exhibitions, in appreciation of Sheikh Shaarawy’s stature.
He explained that the car is a 1989 model, noting that the high demand has not stopped even after announcing the price, reflecting the significant moral value the car represents to the late Sheikh's admirers.
"Imam of Preachers"
It is noted that Muhammad Metwally Shaarawy was one of the most famous interpreters of the Holy Quran in modern times, and was dubbed the "Imam of Preachers" due to his style in simplifying religion and communicating it to various social groups.
He formerly held the position of Minister of Awqaf in Egypt, and his "Faithful Thoughts" about the Quran have become a hallmark in the history of Arab religious media, as Egypt's voices and minarets were associated with his speeches.
Sheikh Shaarawy passed away on June 17, 1998, leaving behind a vast legacy of Quran interpretation, making his personal belongings of wide media and public interest to this day.
