France Deploys Its First Forces in Greenland

Khaberni - French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday that his country had deployed "an initial group of soldiers" in Greenland as part of a European mission, and will send "additional land, air, and sea resources" to the autonomous island under Danish rule, which the administration of US President Donald Trump seeks to acquire.

Macron stated that "France and Europeans must continue to be present wherever their interests are threatened, without escalation, but without any compromise on the integrity of territories".
He emphasized during a speech to military personnel at an air base near Marseille in southern France, that Paris's "role" requires it to "stand alongside a sovereign state to protect its territories".

The deployment of forces began simultaneously with a major meeting between American, Danish, and Greenlandic officials, which revealed the continuation of fundamental and possibly intractable disagreements between Washington's vision and that of Copenhagen and Nuuk for the island's future.

Macron said in his post on the X platform, "At the request of Denmark, France has decided to participate in the joint maneuvers that Denmark is organizing in Greenland, the first French military elements are already on their way. Others will follow."
