Khaberni - Informed sources revealed an active Gulf role that contributed to calming Washington's tone towards Tehran, at a time when the intensity of American statements has decreased in the past few hours regarding Iran.
A Saudi official said on Thursday that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the Sultanate of Oman succeeded in convincing U.S. President Donald Trump of the necessity to give Iran a chance, warning at the same time of «serious repercussions» that could result from any direct targeting of the Iranian interior, according to «France Press» agency.
Continuous communication with Washington
The official explained that Riyadh, Doha, and Muscat still have direct communications with the American administration regarding the developments in the Iranian file, within the framework of diplomatic efforts aimed at containing escalation and maintaining regional stability.
Concurrent with these moves, three informed sources confirmed the reduction in the security alert level at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, following hours after its temporary increase and the evacuation of a number of soldiers and personnel, in an additional indicator of the reduction in tension levels.
The U.S. President Retreats
On the other hand, U.S. President Donald Trump hinted at a positive development in the Iranian file, amid escalating tension between Washington and Tehran, indicating that the Iranian authorities have backtracked on executing death sentences against protesters.
Trump, in a post via his platform «Truth Social» today (Thursday), relayed a news report carried by «Fox News» stating that, «the Iranian protester will not be sentenced to death following President Trump's warnings, nor will others».
Trump commented on this news writing in a post via his platform «Truth Social» on Thursday: «This is good news... Let's hope it continues!».
Iranian Denial and Unlikely Execution
Simultaneously, the Iranian authorities denied issuing a death sentence for Erfan Soltani, who was arrested last Saturday following his participation in the protests, confirming that he is detained in Karaj prison near Tehran.
The «Mizan» agency, affiliated with the judiciary authority, clarified that Soltani faces charges related to «organizing gatherings against national security and spreading propaganda against the system», emphasizing that these charges do not fall under crimes punishable by death, and that his maximum punishment if convicted would be imprisonment.
Retreat in American Threatening Tone
Trump had repeated, in the past few weeks, his threats to intervene in support of protesters in case of «continued killings», however, on Wednesday, he indicated that he had received information that suggested a reduction in the killing of protesters, which is considered a de-escalation after previously hinting at the possibility of military action.
Iranian Warning in Return
In contrast, Iranian officials emphasized that any attack targeting their country would be met with a decisive response, including strikes against Israel and the U.S. military bases scattered in the region.
