Netanyahus Trick to Disrupt the Second Phase of the Gaza Agreement

Khaberni  - Hours after the American envoy Steve Witkoff announced the beginning of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quickly downplayed this move, while the opposition accused him of leaving the decision to the United States.

The mother of the soldier Ran Goueli - whose body is still in Gaza - said that she and her husband met Netanyahu - wanted by the International Criminal Court – and he informed them that what is happening is "a mere formality".

The mother of the prisoner reported that Netanyahu said, "There will be no withdrawal, no reconstruction, and no relief for the residents of the sector before the body is returned," according to Al Jazeera.

Netanyahu's office also issued a statement affirming that the retrieval of the last prisoner's body and Hamas's commitment to disarmament "are a priority," and that forming a technocrat committee to manage the sector "will not affect that."

At the same time, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported from what sources indicated that Israel would not withdraw from the yellow line until progress is made in the disarmament file.

In response to the American announcement, former Defense Ministers Yoav Gallant and Benny Gantz said that entering the second phase without Israel's input was because Tel Aviv refused to enter into negotiations the following day, describing the situation as a "mistake".

Decision is in Washington's Hands

The Israeli opposition said - according to al-Omari - that Netanyahu has placed the decision in the hands of the United States, which takes decisions through the leadership body it has established at the borders of the sector or through President Donald Trump personally.

Through these maneuvers, Netanyahu tries to claim that he has achieved a lot of achievements, while he continues to incite the United States to strike Iran to divert attention from developments in Gaza, or to create a narrative that serves him at this stage, as al-Omari says.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported early Thursday from American officials that Washington plans to engage in talks with Hamas regarding disarming and obtaining amnesty, according to these officials.

The officials indicated that they would engage in discussions with Hamas about the next phase in Gaza, which includes disarmament, and they would talk with Israel about the nature of the "amnesty program" that will be granted to Hamas.

Witkoff announced yesterday, Wednesday, the beginning of the second phase of the 20-point plan by the American president to end the conflict in Gaza, which moves from a ceasefire to disarmament, forming a technocratic administration, and reconstruction.
