Russia expels British diplomat accused of spying

Khaberni - Russia said on Thursday that it has ordered the expulsion of a British diplomat from the country after the Federal Security Service (FSB) discovered that he was a spy.

The Federal Security Service, which is the main successor to the former Soviet intelligence agency (KGB), named the British diplomat, and said that he had been working undercover for the British intelligence service.

The authorities gave the diplomat two weeks to leave Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the British chargé d'affaires in Russia to protest the situation.

The ministry stated, "It was emphasized again that Moscow will not tolerate the undeclared activities of British intelligence officers in Russia."

It added, "A warning was also issued that if London escalates the situation, the Russian side will respond decisively in kind."
