Khaberni - The UN Security Council will meet on Thursday afternoon "to provide a briefing on the situation in Iran," according to a statement made by a spokesperson for the Somali presidency of the council.
The scheduling note stated that the United States requested to hold the session.
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he was informed that "executions" had stopped in Iran, amid human rights reports of harsh repression practiced by the authorities against participants in anti-government protests.
In recent days, Trump spoke about offering assistance to the Iranian people in the face of the crackdown launched by the authorities, which human rights groups say has resulted in the deaths of at least 3428 people.
Earlier on Wednesday, Iran warned the United States that it was capable of responding to any attack, while sources reported that Washington had withdrawn personnel from Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, which was targeted by Iran with missiles last year.
The tensions between the two rivals, who have had no diplomatic relations since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, come after Trump warned Tehran against taking actions against it due to the suppression of the protests.
Human rights organizations say that the Iranian authorities, in the midst of an internet blackout for days, are conducting the most severe crackdown in years on protests that began over economic demands before political slogans were raised.
