Iranian Foreign Minister No Plan to Implement Execution Sentences

Khaberni - Authorities in Iran have suspended the execution of a man detained during the protests shaking Iran, after NGOs and Washington warned of the possibility of its implementation on Wednesday, according to a human rights group which also warned that his life is still in danger.

The Norway-based organization "Hengaaw" reported, citing relatives of the detainee, that the execution of Erfan Sultani (26 years old) was scheduled for Wednesday but was postponed, adding that "serious concerns" about his life still remain.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed on Wednesday, in response to a question about anti-government protests in Iran, that "Iran has no plan to implement death sentences".

Araghchi added in an interview on Fox News, "There is no plan to implement execution by hanging. Execution by hanging is completely unacceptable".

According to a Norwegian-based Iranian human rights organization, execution by hanging is common in Iranian prisons.

US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that he was informed that the "executions" have stopped in Iran, amid human rights reports of violent repression by the authorities against those participating in anti-government protests.
