Khaberni - The government estimated the total cost of a number of projects in the transport and logistics sector at approximately 3.47 billion dinars, distributed over a package of strategic projects aimed at developing the public transport system, enhancing regional and international connectivity, and stimulating investment in partnership with the private sector.
According to details monitored by "Al-Mamlaka", the projects included a railway project connecting the industrial port in Aqaba with mining areas at an estimated cost of 1.77 billion dinars, in addition to a project to establish and operate a light rail between the cities of Amman and Zarqa at an estimated cost of one billion dinars, as part of an initiative to encourage investment and establish partnerships between the public and private sectors.
In the context of improving public transport systems and enhancing the efficiency of its services, the sector includes a project to establish and operate the Amman bridge and alternative roads (Sweileh – Naour) at an estimated cost of 462 million dinars.
The Ministry of Investment indicated that the development of the Medical City bridge (Amman bypass); as one of the most important modern infrastructure projects in the transport sector aimed at improving the movement of public and private transport and enhancing the connection between the regions of the kingdom through a modern and safe urban corridor.
The project extends over a length of 15.8 km as an elevated road (bridge) starting from the Safout intersection in the north to the Naour intersection in the south, according to an integrated engineering design that combines private vehicle movement and public transport (BRT) within connected lanes, according to data monitored by "Al-Mamlaka".
The projects also included, within an initiative to enhance regional and international connectivity and improve infrastructure, a project for the development and expansion of the Aqaba container port at an estimated cost of 171 million dinars.
In the context of enhancing environmental policies and systems and transitioning to the use of clean energy sources, the sector included the implementation of the Rapid Transit Buses BRT project between Amman and Zarqa - operating the first phase at a cost of 58 million dinars, in addition to the Rapid Transit Buses BRT project between Amman and Zarqa - operating fare collection system at a cost of 9.1 million dinars.
The second phase of the Rapid Bus (BRT) project in the capital Amman, includes the development of 41 kilometers of infrastructure dedicated to rapid bus transit through three main corridors in different areas of the capital.
The first corridor starts from Sweileh roundabout to Naour bridge with a length of 15.5 kilometers through King Abdullah II Street and the Eighth Circle, and includes a proposed elevated bridge between Sweileh and Naour. The second corridor extends from Naour bridge to the Station Complex with a length of 15.5 kilometers, passing through Al-Quds Street, Al-Hurriya, Prince Hassan, and Al-Yarmouk. Whereas, the third corridor includes a route from the Customs roundabout to Madaba intersection with a length of 10 kilometers through the Khreibet Al-Souk area, with a modern design that enhances the connection between west, central, and south Amman.
These projects are part of a package of investment opportunities and major projects that aim to develop the infrastructure of the transport and logistics sector, improve the efficiency of public transport services, and enhance partnerships between the public and private sectors.
