Iran Reopens Its Airspace After Temporary Closure

Khaberni - Iran has reopened its airspace after closing it for about five hours amid fears of potential military action between the United States and Iran, forcing airlines to cancel flights, change routes, or delay some of them.

A notice on the Federal Aviation Administration site stated that Iran temporarily closed its airspace to all flights except international flights to and from it with official permission starting from 22:15 GMT on Wednesday.

The notice was lifted just before 03:00 GMT according to the Flight Radar24 website, which showed that five Iranian airline flights were among the first to resume over the country.

The temporary closure occurred at a time when US President Donald Trump was considering options for handling the situation in Iran, which is witnessing the largest anti-government protests in years.

In a related context, a US official said on Wednesday that the United States is withdrawing some personnel from its bases in the Middle East, following a senior Iranian official warning that Tehran would target US bases if Iran was struck by a US bombing.

The launch of rockets and drones in increasing numbers in conflict zones poses a significant risk to aviation.

IndiGo, India's largest airline, announced that some of its international flights would be affected by the sudden closure of Iranian airspace.

An Aeroflot Russian flight returning to Moscow from Tehran was also affected by the closure, according to data from the Flight Radar24 site.

Germany issued new guidelines on Wednesday, warning its airlines about entering Iranian airspace, shortly after Lufthansa had rescheduled its flights across the Middle East amid escalating tensions in the region.

The United States already prohibits all commercial flights from flying over Iran, and there are no direct flights between the two countries.

Fly Dubai and Turkish Airlines among others have canceled several flights to Iran last week.

Lufthansa stated on Wednesday that it would avoid flying in both Iranian and Iraqi airspace until further notice, noting that some flights might be canceled as a result of these measures.
