AlShara Kurdish rights are preserved and SDF does not represent them

Khaberni  - Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara stated that the rights of the Kurdish component will be preserved in the constitution, adding in excerpts from a television interview that was broadcast by the Syrian news agency, saying on Wednesday "We want the Kurds to participate in the army, security, and parliament, but the PKK organization wants to deprive them of development opportunities".

The Syrian President indicated, during excerpts from a television interview, that Aleppo accounts for almost more than fifty percent of the Syrian economy, and it is an economic artery and a main passage for the economy, which makes stability and calm a top priority.

President Al-Shara added that the SDF attacked us upon our entry into Aleppo and hindered the progress of the military forces, and we took urgent emergency measures which resulted in the SDF advancing inside the neighborhoods of Aleppo, adding that "SDF disrupted civilian and economic life in Aleppo and did not adhere to the terms of the April agreement".

President Al-Shara revealed the details of the first meeting he had with SDF commander Mazloum Abdi after the liberation, noting that the meeting with Abdi took place about a month and a half after arriving in Damascus.

He clarified that at the beginning of the meeting he said to Abdi "Mr. Mazloum, if you are fighting for the rights of the Kurdish component, you do not need to shed even a single drop of blood, because the rights of the Kurdish component are preserved and will be preserved by the constitution, as well as the right of citizenship and participation, and as for having Kurdish officers in the Syrian army, this is fundamental".

The law preserves the rights

The Syrian President confirmed that the Kurdish component "participated in the Syrian revolution and does not belong to the SDF", emphasizing that he does not believe the organization represents the Kurdish component and that there are internal disagreements among the Kurdish groups.

He added "It suffices that we think about the nation altogether, and consider the rights of the Kurdish component according to legal measures, so that the law is the one that preserves the rights of everyone."

President Al-Shara said that the Kurdish component "is integrated with the Syrian situation and they are present in Damascus neighborhoods, study at universities, and in the Syrian government there is a Minister of Education from the Kurdish component."

He added "It is enough to think about the homeland altogether, and to think about the rights of the Kurdish component according to legal proceedings, so that the law is the one that preserves everyone's rights."

The president pointed out that any Kurdish right, including those from the past fourteen years involving forced migrations, must return without negotiation, ensuring "that the rights of the Kurdish community are non-negotiable, including citizenship and participation in parliament and sovereign positions."

President Al-Shara clarified that all this must be based on competence and not on quotas.

He concluded his talk by stating that discussions with Abdi progressed until a comprehensive agreement was reached, affirming his commitment to protecting the rights of all components of Syrian society according to the law and the constitution.

Recently, the Syrian government successfully integrated the last two districts in the city of Aleppo under SDF control, as part of a sovereign path aimed at enhancing security and economic stability in the economic capital of the country.

On January 6th, incidents erupted in the city of Aleppo with SDF launching attacks from its controlled areas in the Ashrafieh, Sheikh Maqsood, and Bani Zaid neighborhoods on residential areas, civil facilities, and army sites, resulting in 24 deaths and 129 injuries.

In response, the army launched a limited military operation on January 8th, which ended on the 10th of the same month, during which it regained control of these neighborhoods, allowing militants in the organization to exit to the northeast of the country, where their stronghold is located.

SDF renounced the terms of an agreement it made with the government on March 10, 2025, which stipulates the integration of civil and military institutions in the northeast regions into the state administration.

Iraqi "Shams" channel announced on Tuesday its apology for broadcasting the interview it conducted with President Al-Shara, which came against the backdrop of the Syrian army regaining control of the Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafieh districts in Aleppo from the SDF organization.

The Syrian Ministry of Information announced that it retains the full right to broadcast the interview conducted by the channel with President Al-Shara, following the channel's apology for broadcasting it.

It stated in a press release that it followed the circumstances surrounding the televised interview conducted by Shams channel with the Syrian President, and its apology for broadcasting it based on its own political assessments.
