Hussein Fahmy True Art Does Not Fear Approaching Thorny Areas

Khaberni - The artist Hussein Fahmy is one of the most prominent names in the history of Egyptian cinema. He has been distinguished by a commanding presence since his beginnings, combining handsomeness, culture, and artistic awareness, which made him a unique model beyond the stereotypical image of a star.

Over the decades, he has not been satisfied with easy or guaranteed roles, but has leaned in his choices towards works that pose questions and open spaces for thinking, betting on the viewer's intellect before his emotion. From cinema to television, and from acting to presiding over film festivals, Hussein Fahmy has always been keen on having an artistic stance and vision, not just a profession.

In one of his latest cinematic participations in the movie "The Atheist," Hussein Fahmy's name returned to dominate the public discussion, not only because of the nature of the role, but also the intellectual issue that the film raises, which sparked wide controversy since its announcement until its screening.

In his talk with "Alarabiya.net" and "Alhadath.net," Fahmy revealed the reasons behind his attraction to this project and the controversy surrounding it.

The artist Hussein Fahmy said that his participation in the movie "The Atheist" stemmed from his belief in the importance of cinema that poses questions and opens up discussion.

He confirmed that he was enthusiastic about the work since his first reading of the script, for the ideas it carries that are open to reflection and dialogue, far from superficial or direct treatment.

Fahmy clarified that from his perspective, cinema is not just a means of entertainment, but a space for thinking and reviewing ideas. He pointed out that works that stir controversy are sometimes more honest and impactful because they stir the stagnant waters within society and prompt the audience to ask questions instead of receiving ready-made answers.

He added that the script was one of the main factors that encouraged him to undertake the experience, especially since the character he presents in the movie carries complex human and intellectual dimensions and requires a calm and balanced approach, away from prejudices.

He pointed out that the film does not present final theses as much as it opens a space for reflection. Fahmy explained that "The Atheist" does not attack anyone nor defend a particular idea, but rather, it tries to present a human condition open for discussion.

He emphasized that true art does not fear approaching thorny areas as long as it is done with awareness and respect for the viewer's intellect. He added that mixed reactions about the film are normal and expected, and even healthy, because the difference in opinion is a sign that the work succeeded in stirring questions.

He stated that the most dangerous thing that any artistic work can face is indifference.

He mentioned that the controversy accompanying the film does not worry him but sees it as part of art's role in society. He clarified that history is full of artistic works that were misunderstood in their time and then reassessed later in a more fair manner.
