United States to Freeze Visa Procedures for Citizens of 75 Countries Next Week

Khaberni - Fox News reported on Wednesday, citing a memo from the U.S. Department of State, that the administration of President Donald Trump will suspend all visa issuance procedures for visitors from 75 countries starting from January 21st of this year.

The report stated that Somalia, Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, Brazil, Nigeria, and Thailand are among the countries included in this decision.

Representatives from the State Department have not yet responded to requests for comment on the referred memo, which Fox News said directs U.S. embassies to deny visas under current law while the department reevaluates its procedures. The directive does not specify any timeframe.

The visa halt comes amid a widespread campaign against immigration pursued by the Republican Trump since he took office in January last year.

In November last year, Trump pledged to "permanently stop (immigration from all) third-world countries" following an incident where an Afghan citizen fired near the White House, resulting in the death of a National Guard member.
