Khaberni - Qatar confirmed the departure of some individuals from Al Udeid Air Base as a precautionary measure in response to the tensions witnessed in the region, especially following Iranian warnings of strikes against American military bases in the area.
A Qatari government statement today indicated that in reference to media reports circulating about the departure of some individuals from Al Udeid Air Base, the State of Qatar continues to take all necessary measures to ensure the security and safety of its citizens and residents on its territory as a top priority, including measures related to the protection of its vital and military facilities.
In a related context, the statement noted that in case any new developments are available, they will be announced through official accredited channels, and an American official informed Reuters that Washington had begun withdrawing US forces from its main bases in the Middle East.
The official, who declined to be named, mentioned that the American decision was part of a precautionary measure in response to escalating tensions in the region.
In a related context, Reuters was told by three diplomats that some individuals were advised to leave the Al Udeid Air Base, which belongs to the US military in Qatar, by this evening, Wednesday.
Earlier, Qatar sent out its warnings in response to the wave of popular protests in Iran, as it highlighted what it called the "catastrophic" consequences that would affect the region in the event of any anticipated American escalation at a time when Washington announced that it was considering diplomatic options towards Iran, in parallel with assessing the possibility of launching a military attack aimed at deterring the Iranian leadership from continuing to suppress the protesters, according to the "New York Times".
