Khaberni - A home in Ottawa, Canada witnessed an unusual incident, after the family dog caused a sudden fire to break out while it was playing inside the house, leading to a state of panic and mobilization of the firefighting teams. Surveillance camera footage showed a flaming glove falling onto a couch inside the house, while the dog moved to a safe distance to watch what was happening.
Newspapers reported that the fire broke out in a home in the Orleans area, after the dog chewed a lithium-ion battery-operated ski glove, causing the battery to damage and ignite suddenly, accompanied by flames and dense smoke.
The fire department confirmed that their teams arrived at the scene within just 4 minutes of receiving the report, and managed to control the fire in about 10 minutes, before it could spread to the rest of the house.
Firefighters inspected the house, where they found the dog and safely evacuated it outside without any injuries, while no one was inside the house at the moment the fire started. Authorities noted that an adult and a child temporarily left the house as a precautionary measure.
Nick DeFazio, a spokesperson for the fire department, said that the way this fire broke out is extremely rare, praising the cooperation of the homeowner who provided authorities with video clips to raise awareness about the dangers of lithium batteries.
The fire department warned of the dangers of lithium-ion batteries if they are damaged, urging residents to store battery-operated devices away from the reach of children and pets, and to immediately stop using any battery that shows signs of swelling, heat, or damage.
