Ali Shaath Leads the Gaza Management Committee An Announcement Expected Today

Khaberni - The New York Times reported that it learned from several officials that the United States is close to forming a committee of Palestinian technocrats to oversee the management of the Gaza Strip, and it is expected that the formation of this committee will be announced later on Wednesday.

The American newspaper quoted 4 officials and 6 others informed about the decision, stating that Ali Shaath, the former deputy minister of planning for Palestine, has been selected to head the committee.

According to the newspaper, many of those informed about the plans related to the Gaza Strip file expect the announcement of this committee today, Wednesday, when Palestinian officials from Hamas and other factions meet in the Egyptian capital to conduct talks.

The sources speaking to the New York Times did not reveal further details regarding the identities of the rest of the committee members, how it will manage the Gaza Strip, or the parties that will fund its operations.

Desire to Show Progress
The newspaper quoted analysts saying that the announcement of the formation of this committee could be intended to boost President Donald Trump's Gaza plans, which seem to still face some challenges.

According to Michael Koplow, an analyst at the Israel Policy Forum, a research group based in New York, the announcement of the formation of this committee may reflect "a desire to show progress, given that progress on other fronts has been difficult."

The New York Times noted that the truce between Israel and Hamas has largely held, while U.S. attempts to encourage many countries to send peacekeeping forces to Gaza have not yielded significant results.

The Next Stage
Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. officials confirmed that the Trump administration will announce the transition to the next stage of the Gaza plan on Wednesday.

It is worth mentioning that the ceasefire plan supported by U.S. President Donald Trump, which came into effect in October of last year, stipulates that the committee be non-political, providing public services in the sector, and that the work team consists of independent Palestinian experts.
