The World Bank 378 of funding for a project enhancing womens opportunities in Jordan has been disbursed

Khaberni - The World Bank stated that the implementation of the project to enhance economic opportunities for women is progressing satisfactorily since its inception on April 30 of the year 2024, indicating that the total amount disbursed amounted to approximately 37.8% of the total project financing of $226 million.

According to bank data reviewed by "Al Mamlaka," the program is achieving tangible results at the level of key indicators, despite the disparity in the pace of implementation between its different components, which led to the submission of a technical and procedural restructuring proposal aimed at accelerating the achievement of results and ensuring alignment of the program with institutional and legislative updates.

The program aims to address the constraints faced by women in entering and sustaining in the labor market, particularly those related to workplace conditions, financial inclusion, safe transportation, and childcare services, by linking funding to measurable outcomes within a results-based financing framework.

According to the report, the total program financing amounts to $221 million in the form of a loan from the World Bank for Reconstruction and Development, in addition to a grant of $5 million from the Early Learning Partnership Fund.

By the end of 2025, the amount disbursed from the loan was approximately $84.86 million, which is 38.4% of the total funding, while $136.14 million remains undisbursed. As for the grant, the amount disbursed from it was $0.52 million, which represents 10.36% of its total value.

In terms of achieved results, official tables show progress in the area of improving working conditions for women, where a formal flexible work system was adopted, and a system for documenting flexible work contracts linked between the Ministry of Labor and the Social Security Corporation was operationalized.

Data recorded show that 38 women benefited from flexible work arrangements until September 2025, alongside satisfaction rates ranging between 78% and81% regarding the use of the “Protection” platform, and all complaints received within the specified timeframe were addressed.

In the area of financial inclusion and women's entrepreneurship, the report indicates an increase in the number of electronic wallets and bank accounts owned by women, reaching 3,338,807 accounts by September 2025, compared to a baseline of 2,437,375 accounts.

Additionally, data monitored by "Al Mamlaka" showed 1,387 women-owned projects registered with the Companies Control Department, and the share of women from the total reported individual credit facilities by banks reached 22.3%.

In the area of safe public transportation, a national action plan to enhance women's access to safe and affordable transportation was completed, with the establishment of modern, climate-resilient standards for bus station designs, targeting the construction of 30 stations by 2028.

Regarding the expansion of childcare services, the report showed significant progress, represented in training 278 daycare workers, and registering and licensing 164 new nurseries until September 2025, in addition to 1,627 working mothers benefiting from nursery subscription support provided by the Social Security Corporation. The proportion of children enrolled in nurseries reached 2.4% according to the latest available data in the tables monitored by "Al Mamlaka".

The report affirmed that the proposed restructuring involves no change in the project's developmental goal or scope or duration but aims to improve the efficiency of implementation, accelerate the achievement of targeted results, and ensure the program's continuity and effectiveness within the updated institutional and legislative framework in Jordan.
