Jordan  A 257 Increase in Baptism Site Visitors Over 11 Months

Khaberni - The number of visitors to the baptism site of Jesus Christ "Al-Maghtas" during 11 months last year (January - November) was 91,418 visitors, including 79,565 foreigners and 11,853 Jordanians, with an increase of25.7% compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism obtained by "Al-Mamlaka".

According to official data, the number of visitors to Al-Maghtas over 11 months in the year 2024 was 72,716 visitors, including 62,961 foreigners and 9,755 Jordanians.

(Al-Maghtas), located about 9 km north of the Dead Sea, is one of the holiest sites on earth for all Christian denominations, as efforts to preserve and protect it fall within the historic responsibility towards the sacred sites located east of the Jordan River.

Saint Pope John Paul II declared Al-Maghtas, a site listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage list, as a Christian pilgrimage destination during his historic visit in the year 2000.

Al-Maghtas welcomes Christian pilgrims from all denominations. It has been visited by Saint Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis, in addition to many senior religious and political leaders.
