Khaberni - The House of Representatives, on Wednesday, will hold a session involving the discussion of a decision by the Economic and Investment Committee which includes the draft law amended for the Competition Law for the year 2025.
The head of the Economic and Investment Committee, Khaled Abu Hassan, stated that the committee approved the articles of the draft law after completing its continued discussions and listening to experts and specialists, and reviewing comments and opinions from various relevant parties.
Abu Hassan affirmed that the committee ensured that the law meets the requirements of the economic stage and enhances a fair competitive environment in the local market, which serves the public interest.
The draft law aims to develop the institutional framework for the application of the Competition Law provisions, through restructuring the Competition Directorate in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, and transforming it into an independent department called the "Competition Protection Department" administratively affiliated to the Minister of Industry and Trade.
Additionally, the law includes the formation of a Council for Competition Affairs, framing decision-making tools, handling complaints, and organizing the conduct of investigations in competition cases, in alignment with the best international practices.
