Two Greek oil tankers attacked by drones in the Black Sea

Khaberni - Unidentified drones attacked two Greek oil tankers in the Black Sea on Tuesday, one of which was scheduled to carry Kazakh oil on the Russian coast.

The tankers, "Matilda" flying the Maltese flag and "Delta Harmony" flying the Liberian flag, did not suffer significant damage, according to a Greek maritime affairs official.

No Greek or Kazakh officials have indicated who might be behind the attack.

However, the Russian news agency "RIA Novosti" reported that a source, who was not identified, said Ukraine carried out these attacks.

Kiev has not yet made any comments.

"Matilda" was headed to load Kazakh oil at the "Caspian Pipeline International Consortium" (CPC) near the Russian port of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea when it came under attack, according to the state-owned Kazakh company "KazMunayGas".

It was explained that "no crew members were injured," adding that "according to initial assessments, the vessel is still seaworthy, and there are no signs of severe structural damage."

The Kazakh Energy Ministry reported that the oil tanks of "Delta Harmony" were empty at the time of the attack.

Russian and Ukrainian attacks on civilian ships have been increasing for several weeks.

On Monday, Ukraine accused Russia of using drones to strike two cargo ships flying the flags of Panama and San Marino, which were near a Ukrainian port in the Black Sea, resulting in one injury.

Ukraine has targeted the "Caspian Pipeline International Consortium" several times since the onset of the Russian attack on its territory four years ago.

In December, Kiev announced its responsibility for attacks targeting three oil tankers connected to Russia in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. It also targeted the port of Novorossiysk.

On November 30, the Kazakh authorities urged Ukraine to stop its attacks on the "Caspian Pipeline International Consortium," which is one of the largest oil pipeline networks in the world, handling about 80% of Kazakh oil. It had been attacked four times in the year 2025.
