The Saudi Defense Minister thanked the director of Mukalla Port for his heroic and humanitarian role in ensuring the safety and preservation of lives and property at the port, according to a tweet by Prince Khalid bin Salman on the X platform.
In late December, the Saudi-led Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen carried out a limited airstrike targeting external military support at Mukalla Port, which is the only sea port in the Hadramout province that has regained its calm after experiencing tensions recently.
Following those strikes, the official spokesperson for the Coalition forces, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, stated: "The Coalition observed two ships coming from Fujairah Port to Mukalla Port without obtaining official permits from the leadership of the joint forces of the Coalition."
He added: "The crew of the ships disabled their tracking systems to unload a large quantity of weapons and combat vehicles, intended to support the forces of the Southern Transitional Council in the eastern provinces of Yemen (Hadramout, Al-Mahrah), aiming to fuel the conflict, which constitutes a clear violation of the cease-fire agreements and the pursuit of a peaceful solution, as well as a violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2216."
