Khaberni - Journalist Majed Al-Quraan affirmed his complete respect for all state institutions, foremost among them the House of Representatives and the Jordanian Press Association, and his constant commitment to professional ethics and their legal and syndicate frameworks.
This came in a statement he issued in response to a defamation campaign led by a representative on social media platforms accusing him of blackmail.
Al-Quraan emphatically rejected the public accusations of blackmail made on social media by a current deputy in the House of Representatives, which are serious accusations not based on any judicial ruling.
He said that what happened constitutes public defamation that amounts to the character assassination of a journalist, which cannot be classified as an opinion or criticism, but as deliberate defamation and moral execution outside the framework of the law, especially when it comes from an elected representative and a member of the Press Association.
He added that professional disputes—if they exist—have their clear legal and syndicate pathways, and that publicly issuing criminal descriptions is ethically unacceptable and legally criminal, no matter who the source or the position of the person is.
He emphasized that ignoring defamation that amounts to the assassination of a journalist's character not only harms an individual but puts the freedom of the press and its entire professional community in jeopardy.
He concluded by emphasizing his retention of all his legal rights to defend his professional reputation and the right of all journalists to practice their work without intimidation or defamation.
